Complacency or Contempt ?By William McCullough
Remember the Red Book? The plan to save our great nation put forth by the Liberals and used to great effect by the P.M to win in a landslide? The withdrawal of the hated G.S.T was one of these articles’ cornerstones. But after the election – Well, 29 million of us must have bad hearing because, according to the P.M, he never said it would be ‘scrapped’ but ‘reviewed’. Now we all know - When a politician says they’ll review something it usually costs us millions and nothing gets done. But this time we had a chance when one of the top Liberals said she’d resign over the misunderstanding. Of course this was our chance. We all thought a massive defeat in a re-election would send the message “KEEP YOUR PROMISES”. As we all now know she won large and since that day our leader has basically stepped on the rights of all Canadians. Is it complacency or contempt on our part? As for me, it’s been over a decade and it still saddens me that a nation with a history as rich as ours could silently watch this unfold and not get angry and demand accountability on the part of our elected officials. William has graciously offered his time to put forth his
opinion on just about anything and is always receptive toward discussions
on politics, work, history, economy, education, health, Brazil, sun, moon,
stars......... The opinions and views of our contributors are not necessarily parallel of the collective organizers and principles responsible for the production and presentation of the Rice Lake Today website. |
